Niger Insurance
Cover is critically important
Anyone going to do business or travel in this vast desert nation should seek specialist advice about Niger insurance. Political instability, terrorism, lawlessness and disease can present dangerous hazards and most standard insurance policies will be invalid. Dangers you may encounter in Niger
This vast desert nation has been blighted by drought, famine, political instability and impartial military rule since its independence from France in 1960. The security situation here is often so dangerous that all travel to most of the country is strongly discouraged.
Lawlessness is rife across Niger and foreigners are at risk from all forms of violent crime. Uranium, the country’s main export, is mined in the north, in an area where Tuareg nomads are fighting for greater autonomy and a share of the mining revenues. Fears are that there may be an associated al-Qaeda presence due to the high incidence of terrorist attacks and kidnapping of foreigners. If your business brings you here, your Niger insurance should include Personal Accident cover and Kidnap and Ransom insurance.
Poverty, disease and food shortages are widespread and health facilities are severely limited. Any serious illness or injury will require air ambulance evacuation to Europe, and so Medical Evacuation cover must be included in your Niger insurance policy along with comprehensive international health insurance. Road travel also presents serious hazards, not just from poor driving standards and maintenance, but from the risk of carjacking and banditry.
