Current dangers in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories
Following the Hamas attacks in Israel on 7 October 2023 and subsequent Israeli military action in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon and Syria, Israel has become a volatile region, with potential threats to westerners a very real possibility.
Be aware that if FCDO advice is against travel to a certain area, any foreign nationals you send there to work will find that standard Israel travel insurance is invalid.
In Gaza, the West Bank and along the Lebanese, Syrian and Egyptian borders there is a risk of becoming caught up in Palestinian attacks, Israeli air strikes and armed incursions. There is also a risk of kidnapping by groups within these areas who are specifically targeting westerners. High-risk insurance with medical evacuation and kidnap and ransom cover is recommended.
Healthcare in Israel is of a very high standard, though it is expensive and the authorities have been known to prevent visitors leaving the country until their bill is settled. Comprehensive international Health insurance is a must, as is cover for evacuation by air ambulance as the cost of this can be incredibly high.
If you have business ventures in Israel, you might like to consider Trade and Political Risk insurance to cover you against unforeseen risks caused by civil unrest or government actions out of your control.
