Lebanon Insurance

It’s important to have a comprehensive Lebanon insurance plan in place before you go. The political situation is unstable and security has deteriorated quickly in the past. Visitors should keep themselves up to date with developments and be aware that standard insurance in Lebanon may not provide sufficient cover, particularly for high-risk occupations, high-risk areas or extended residency.

Lebanon insurance – quick facts

  • The security situation in parts of Lebanon can deteriorate quickly
  • There is a high risk of attacks by Islamist extremist groups and political demonstrations can become violent
  • International health insurance in Lebanon is essential, along with cover for emergency evacuation
  • Business liabilities and property and equipment may also need specialist insurance for full protection

Potential risks in Lebanon

Whilst Beirut is a relatively cosmopolitan city, some parts of the city are best avoided and many areas outside of the capital are considered high risk for foreign business people or humanitarian workers. In August 2020, a large explosion occurred in the port area of Beirut, causing widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure in the city and surrounding areas. It led to the collapse of the government and many violent protests.

Terrorist attacks are always a risk, and the complex political situation can change quickly. Terrorist attacks such as car bombings and kidnappings are a real threat and western nationals and interests are a known target.

Although health facilities can be extremely good, they can also be expensive and you should have comprehensive international Medical insurance in Lebanon.

Provision for war and terrorism and kidnap and ransom should also be considered.
