Some of the dangers you might encounter in Mali
Whilst the Malian government is encouraging inward investment in targeted areas like agriculture, infrastructure and modern IT technologies, there is no doubt that the unstable security situation is a significant issue to consider.
The FCDO currently advises against all travel to Mali, except to Bamako, due to the risk of terrorist attacks and kidnaps. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners.
In the Northern provinces, terrorism, banditry and kidnapping are an even greater threat, particularly for foreign nationals. Some hostages have been held for months; others have been killed. Kidnap and Ransom insurance is therefore highly recommended.
Medical facilities in Mali are very limited. Cholera and malaria are common, and meningitis outbreaks occur from the end of February to mid-April.
