Pre-deployment screening saves lives and money

22 December 2015

With an increasing number of expatriates now working in remote or offshore locations, often facing extreme temperatures and physically or mentally strenuous work, the need to pre-screen employees and contractors prior to sending them overseas on assignment has never been more important.

Pre-deployment health screening is intended to establish whether a person is fit both physically and mentally for their assignment, by evaluating an employee’s ability to perform safely and effectively so helping to avoid unnecessary risk to themselves or others.  The assessment will include physical health, emotional health, and immunisation status for anyone moving to an unfamiliar country.

The Oil & Gas industry is an example where pre-deployment screening has become an important part of the process in hiring employees who will be working overseas, with the OGUK Offshore Medical Examination now recognised as the global standard. At Bellwood Prestbury, we are able to assist companies with advising on and managing their international insurance requirements, including choosing and implementing the right pre-deployment programme for their employees.
