New measure announced by the Kuwaiti government
11 January 2016
Under a new measure announced by the Kuwaiti government, expats aged over 50 will be forced to leave the country to reduce the number of foreign workers employed by the government and in those professions where vacancies can be filled by Kuwaitis.
The law is due to be implemented from 1st March 2016 and will cover all nationalities as the government continues its attempt to reduce its reliance on foreign workers who currently make up about two-thirds of the total population of 3 million.
The move, however, faces difficulty because the local nationals are reluctant to move to the private sector and often do not have the required qualifications.
