International liability insurance for military trainers
17 October 2011
Bellwood Prestbury is providing international liability insurance for a training company working with military forces in the Middle East.
The company trains military personnel in a broad range of high risk activities, including small arms combat, surveillance and close protection work, helicopter and fixed wing deployment, diving and anti-piracy measures.
As part of the contract, the client needed international liability insurance to cover potential accidents to trainees or members of the public during training. The client also needed international professional indemnity insurance to ensure that the firm is covered should its advice and training be called into question at a future date.
The nature of the business, using dangerous and potentially lethal equipment, meant that standard insurance would not be adequate. Bellwood Prestbury organised a specialist risk consultants insurance policy through Lloyd’s of London.
For the client, one of the most important aspects of this cover is to include contractors working on the firm’s behalf. This ensures that any specialist the company brings in to deliver training will be covered by their international liability and indemnity insurance and does not require named individuals to be added each time.
Stuart Dix, international consultant at Bellwood Prestbury, says that this type of policy actually costs less than many clients’ might imagine. “As a percentage of the overall contract price, international liability insurance and international indemnity insurance can be relatively small, and yet they offer real protection for both parties. This policy shows that we can organise cover for just about any type of activity, regardless of how dangerous it may be perceived to be.”
