Ebola insurance – specialist high-risk cover now available
22 January 2015
Bellwood Prestbury has developed a specialist Ebola insurance product for companies concerned about the possible exposure of their personnel to this deadly disease.
This new Ebola life insurance policy, developed with Lloyd’s of London, can be issued in its own right or used to top-up an existing life insurance or personal accident insurance policy. It is designed to provide cover for people working in countries where Ebola is a known risk, such as Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, as well as lower risk countries like Nigeria.
45-day follow-me-home period included
The new Ebola life insurance cover includes a 45-day follow-me-home period, to ensure that people who only show signs of the disease once they have arrived back in their own country will still be covered.
Bellwood’s new Ebola policy has been designed to be flexible to meet different needs. It can be set up for a specific trip of a known length to a specific country (say a team visiting Liberia for a set 14 day period). Or it can be organised on a regional basis (say all-Africa) for open travel for any number of employees or contractors.
Ebola cover for automotive client in Sierra Leone
The first client to take out this new high-risk Ebola life insurance policy was a European automotive client with executives travelling to work in Sierra Leone for a fixed period.
Peter Bellwood explains that the policy will be quoted on a case-by-case basis, and because Bellwood Prestbury is an approved Lloyd’s Coverholder, quotes and cover can be arranged quickly. “As a high-risk insurance specialist we regularly respond to companies and contractors who need cover fast. Our new Ebola life insurance policy could be in place within hours of someone deciding to travel.”
