Bellwood Prestbury – proud to support Shelterbox
12 July 2011
Many of our clients work in communities around the world where there is a high risk of disaster. Should the worst happen, they have us to call on, but what about those who don’t? Bellwood Prestbury is supporting ShelterBox, a UK based charity that aims to make a difference for people who may have lost everything.
ShelterBox responds in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. Their big green ShelterBoxes are distributed to affected families and contain the emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies they need to survive in the first days and weeks following a catastrophe. The contents of a ShelterBox will vary according to the nature of the emergency, but usually each one will contain a specially designed disaster relief tent, blankets, mosquito nets, water storage and purification equipment, a stove and cooking equipment, a basic tool kit, a children’s play pack and other essentials.
Since the inception of ShelterBox in 2000, the charity has responded to countless emergencies on every continent, including the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004 and the Haiti earthquake of 2010. In 2011 alone, ShelterBox reached people caught in the earthquakes in New Zealand and Japan, flooding in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Sri Lanka and China, the cyclone in Madagascar and the tornadoes in the USA.
Bellwood Prestbury is pleased to be supporting an organisation that brings shelter, warmth and dignity to so many, and to help ShelterBox in its goal to reach 50,000 families.
Peter Bellwood says: “We think ShelterBox fulfils a vital role, with direct action that makes an instant impact when it’s needed most. We’re pleased to help and look forward to supporting them over the coming months and years.”
