Back to Libya? Insurance requires special consideration
7 September 2011
As many people consider returning to post-revolution Libya, insurance requirements still require careful consideration.
Business people, reporters and media outfits, NGOs and reconstruction companies, the move back to Libya is beginning, but even though the conflict is all but over, you still need specialist insurance for Libya. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office advice on Libya is still against all travel, which means that standard accident and travel policies remain invalid.
As of 6th September 2011, Lloyd’s, London, are still quoting global life and accident insurance for Libya on a case-by-case basis. For Bellwood Prestbury clients, our Lloyd’s Coverholder status makes this a relatively fast and cost-effective process.
Stuart Dix, one of Bellwood Prestbury’s international consultants, has a number of clients in Libya. Stuart says: “We have arranged cover for Slovakian documentary filmmakers covering hospitals in Misrata in the height of the conflict. We also covered a French security company providing protection for UN officials and a Red Cross initiative assessing the changing medical capabilities within the country. Our Coverholder status enables us to arrange insurance for Libya quickly and we are managing to keep premiums at a sensible level.”
The firm is busy with new enquiries for many returning workers including logistics companies, journalists, charity workers and NGOs, oil and gas companies and security consultants.
