Afghanistan Insurance for an IT Solutions Provider

21 November 2012

A British IT solutions company needed specialist insurance cover after winning a contract from the Ministry of Defence. The contract is to provide services at the Camp Bastion military base in Afghanistan.

The company wanted its employees to be fully covered with comprehensive insurance should they be ill or have an accident whilst working in Afghanistan, especially as the Foreign & Commonwealth Office advises against all travel to this part of Afghanistan, as the threat of terrorism still remains a significant risk factor. For this reason, they knew obtaining insurance would prove difficult with standard insurers declining to offer cover.

The insurance needed to cover the company’s employees in the event of accidental death, dismemberment, permanent disablement, as well as requiring medical expenses and emergency evacuation back to the UK.

As Bellwood Prestbury specialise in providing insurance for high-risk areas and conflict zones such as Afghanistan, Libya and Iraq, they were able to respond quickly, and worked closely with the client to help them through the complex process of finding appropriate cover. After looking at all the options, a bespoke policy designed by Bellwood Prestbury and underwritten through Lloyd’s of London was selected.

The client thanked Bellwood Prestbury by saying: “The team at Bellwood Prestbury provided excellent customer service as well as invaluable expertise, developing the cover we needed in a relatively short period of time. It gives me great comfort to know that my employees are properly covered, and the futures of their families are secure whilst operating in a dangerous country like Afghanistan.”
