It is vital that you have the correct specialist Chad insurance before beginning work or business operations in this troubled African country. The political and security situation remains extremely precarious and standard insurance will not generally provide adequate cover for such a high risk area.

POTENTIAL DANGERS IN CHAD

This large desert land can boast a cultural heritage born of 200 distinct ethnicities and a rich mineral wealth of oil, gold and uranium. Tragically it has been ravaged by civil war and political turmoil since independence from France in 1960, and consequently Chad remains one of the poorest and least developed of Africa’s nations.

Sadly, it is also one of the most dangerous. Travel here is ill-advised without professional security arrangements and specialist Chad insurance that provides effective support in the event of serious injury, kidnap or worse.

Although inter-ethnic violence can erupt anywhere, the main pattern of conflict is between the mostly Christian and Animist south and the mostly Muslim north. In the east, along the Sudanese border, the humanitarian and security situation is especially grave due to the ongoing conflict in Darfur. The areas bordering Libya and the Central African Republic are also particularly unsafe, due to lawlessness and the presence of unexploded ordnance.

Infrastructure is poor to nonexistent and even the capital, N’Djamena, is frequently without running water and electricity. Malaria is common, as are epidemics of waterborne disease such as cholera. Healthcare is minimal, so it’s critical that visitors have international medical insurance in Chad. Cover should include emergency medical evacuation by air ambulance to another country. Road travel is difficult and dangerous due to poor conditions and the risk of banditry. Flooding can leave many roads impassable during the rainy season from July to October.
