Geo Mission Ltd, the pioneering environmental sponsorship organisation, was searching for a comprehensive and unique expedition insurance policy for a high-profile climate change research project.

Geo Mission contacted Bellwood Prestbury, who responded quickly to ensure that the expedition could go ahead safely with the necessary insurance in place.

Bellwood Prestbury explains: “The first thing we did was to contact the existing insurer who was pulling out of Arctic insurance altogether. We were able to negotiate with the existing insurer and extend the policy to cover the training programme in Norway prior to departure to the Arctic. This gave us a little breathing space to investigate viable alternatives.”

Geo Mission delivers the Catlin Arctic Survey 2011, designed to research the changing Arctic environment, and how the effects of climate change there might act as an early indicator for changes around the rest of the globe. This involves people working in extreme conditions and transport and travel in unpredictable environments. The team therefore needed high risk travel insurance to include medical expenses and evacuation/repatriation insurance to the nearest quality medical facility.

Bellwood Prestbury was able to find a new insurer before the team needed to move into the Arctic phase of the expedition.
